Sensory Bucket Packet
The Sensory Bucket Packet is a simple approach to emotional regulation through recognizing one's own sensory profile, sensory experiences, and how they affect our nervous system. This also affords the opportunity to brainstorm and collect multiple sensory accommodations to feel grounded and safe in your daily life, at school, work, and in the community.
The "just a drop" theory explains that, even the smallest sensory insult ("just a drop") can cause a full sensory or autistic meltdown (bucket overflowing) if a bucket is already full from a day of stimuli and experiences. This can help demystify meltdowns and dysregulation when triggers seem inconsistent.
Recognizing and understanding your sensory bucket can empower you in making accommodations in your day to feel safe and successful.
